Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is set to return to action for the club this pre-season, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Scotland international has been plagued by a chronic bowel condition for the past 18 months, and has not played at all in 2013.

The 28-year-old made a comeback last season, but only managed ten appearances for United - starting just two Premier League matches - and had to cut his season short in December.

However, following a second operation to treat his ulcerative colitis in April and a specialised diet programme, Fletcher is targeting a return in time for United's first pre-season under new manager David Moyes.

Fletcher has two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford.
