Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva has called for his club to sign wantaway Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney in the summer.

Rooney has been linked with PSG and Arsenal amongst a host of European clubs after a frustrating season at Old Trafford which saw him played out of position and left out of the squad in the final weeks of the season.

Silva was handed the task of containing Rooney during last week's 2-2 friendly draw between Brazil and England, with the 27-year-old scoring to put his side ahead.

The Selecao captain has encouraged the PSG board to continue their pursuit of Rooney, insisting the England international will be a "quality" signing.

"I love this player. Whenever I have played against him he has scored," Silva said. "I would really like Rooney to sign for PSG. This would be a reinforcement of quality for us."

Silva's own future has been placed in doubt, with rumours of Barcelona's interest in the defender growing.

But he has assured PSG that he will see out his contract in France.

"This is something that occurs at each transfer window," he said. "I am under contract at PSG [until 2017] and I hope to go after this contract."
