Liverpool striker Andy Carroll's protracted transfer to West Ham has moved a step closer, according to Hammers chairman David Gold.

Gold has indicated that the Upton Park club have made progress in their bid to agree personal terms with the England forward.

It was confirmed in May that Liverpool had agreed to sell the striker to West Ham for £15 million, but the deal needed Carroll to accept the move - which still hasn't happened.

But responding to a fan question on Twitter on Tuesday night, Gold stated: "The chances of AC joining West Ham has risen from 50/50 to 75/25 in the last few hours. Will keep u posted."

Reports last week suggested that the striker had demanded a salary of £100,000 a week to move to East London, something that West Ham have been reluctant to sanction.

The 24-year-old's Liverpool salary is around £80,000 a week, and was paid by the Hammers will he was on loan with them last season.

Carroll, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury, scored seven times in 23 appearances during his loan stint at Upton Park.
