Chelsea have confirmed a deal has been reached with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of Andre Schurrle.

The Blues have been on the trail of Schurrle for some time, but the appointment of Jose Mourinho as their new manager cast doubt on the transfer. But Bayer were always confident about the move and the player's agent said on Thursday morning that a deal was close.

Ingo Haspel told German newspaper Kolner Stadtanzeiger he could not understand reports suggesting returning Blues boss Jose Mourinho had called off a move for the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.

"I'd like to think that the deal will come off over the next couple of days," Haspel said.

Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller echoed those remarks: "We will not react [to reports that the deal is off]. We are still working on the transfer. The last signatures are missing."

And on Thursday afternoon, Chelsea confirmed a deal had been reached.

"Chelsea Football Club and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have reached an agreement for the transfer of Andre Schurrle, subject to the completion of legal documentation and related matters, including personal terms and passing a medical," read a statement on Chelsea's official website.
