PSG may use Bale as Villas-Boas bait
Andre Villas-Boas remains top of Paris Saint-Germain's list of potential replacements for Carlo Ancelotti - and the French champions may even make a move for Gareth Bale in a bid to lure the Portuguese manager.
Ancelotti's departure from the Parc des Princes is reportedly imminent, and he is expected to be named the new manager of Real Madrid this week.
And according to L'Equipe, PSG have contacted the Tottenham Hotspur manager's agent, Carlos Goncalves, as the 35-year-old emerges as the Ligue 1 champions' No. 1 target, while the Daily Mirror reported the Bale speculation on Monday.
Backed by the virtually limitless funds of owners Qatar Sports Investments, PSG would have little trouble in paying the reported £10 million release clause in Villas-Boas' contract, which still has two years to run in North London, or the reported £85m transfer fee and £300,000 a week wages for Bale.
However, it remains to be seen whether the former Porto and Chelsea boss would be willing to leave White Hart Lane for what would likely be only a one-year deal, or if Bale would choose PSG over staying in the Premier League or a move to Real Madrid, who have made public their interest in the Welshman.
L'Equipe claims PSG "still intend to follow the market for coaches in 2014 very closely, and not necessarily only for Arsene Wenger", who is held in great esteem by QSI and whose contract at Arsenal expires in 12 months' time.
