Fer still keen on Everton switch

FC Twente midfielder Leroy Fer has indicated that he remains keen on joining Everton, and believes a move could still happen.

The 23-year-old was set for a switch to Goodison Park in January, only for the deal to fall through on medical grounds. Everton agreed an £8.6 million fee to sign Fer, but then tried to revise the structure of the deal amid concern about his recovery from a serious knee injury.

Former Toffees manager David Moyes was keen to sign the Netherlands international, but has since left to take charge at Manchester United. Roberto Martinez, Moyes' successor as Everton boss, has given no indication so far that he is ready to resurrect the deal, however.

But Fer is enthusiastic about moving to the Premier League, and believes a switch to Everton is still on.

The midfielder has been on duty with Netherlands at the Under-21 European Championship in Israel, but is ready to sort out his future following his country's elimination by Italy in the semi-finals on Saturday.

"I haven't heard about anything but I think my manager did. I think Everton are still interested in me," Fer said.

"I would like to go to the Premier League this summer, it's a very nice competition - but my focus has been the European Championships. Afterwards we will see."
