A Dutch court has jailed six teenagers and a 51-year-old man for the manslaughter of a linesman.

Richard Nieuwenhuizen was knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked following an amateur match last December. The official walked away after the attack but died the next day.

Witnesses said at the time that the boys were unhappy with an offside decision in a game between their Nieuw Sloten team and Buitenboys Club in Almere.

The father of one of the juveniles was sentenced to a maximum of six years in jail. Five of the boys were given two-year sentences in juvenile detention centres, with six months suspended. Judge Anja van Holten handed down a one-year sentence with two months suspended to one other juvenile.
