England striker Andy Carroll has completed his move from Liverpool to West Ham United, moving for an undisclosed, club-record fee.

Carroll, 24, passed his West Ham medical on Tuesday and has now sealed a permanent move to the club, having spent last season on loan at Upton Park.

The striker has signed a six-year contract with the Hammers, with the club holding an option of extending that period by an extra two years.

The fee for Carroll, who scored seven goals in 24 Premier League appearances for Sam Allardyce's side, is believed to be an initial £15.5 million to Liverpool, with the remaining £2m coming from add-ons.

His switch brings an end to his time at Anfield, where he signed from Newcastle United for £35m in January 2011 but struggled to shine, having scored just six league goals for the Reds.

"It's fantastic for me to be here. I really enjoyed last season, and that shows in me coming back and making it permanent," Carroll told the club's official website.

"The fans, the lads and the club itself has been great to me, and what I wanted to do was come back here and play football.

"Since the end of the season I've had a lot of time to think, I've missed it and that's why I'm back. Getting promoted the season before last, then finishing where we did - we did great, and it can only get better for us.

"The way the club's being run, obviously getting the new stadium and everything like that, it's only going up."

Earlier this month, West Ham announced the signing of goalkeeper Adrian on a free transfer from Real Betis as Allardyce, who penned a new two-year contract in May, plans for the 2013-14 season.
