Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Franco Baldini as technical director at White Hart Lane.

The North London club said they were "delighted" that the Italian, who was England's assistant manager during the Fabio Capello era, had agreed to move to the capital.

He has also served as general director at Roma and sporting director at Real Madrid, and played for Bologna, Bari and Pescara.

"Franco is extremely well respected in the industry, possessing an extensive knowledge of players around the world," Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy told the club's official website.

"He will strengthen our football management team, particularly in the field of recruitment, working closely with [head coach] Andre Villas-Boas and [technical co-ordinator] Tim Sherwood across all levels on the playing side."
