Arsenal striker Gervinho has hinted he would be open to a return to French football with Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille.

Gervinho, 26, has struggled to break into the Arsenal side in his two years at the club, and made just 12 Premier League starts last season.

The Gunners are now looking to recoup some of the £10.5 million they paid Lille for his services in the summer of 2011, with Marseille already having declared their interest in the Ivory Coast international.

He enjoyed a strong start to the 2012-13 season, but following his return from African Nations Cup duty in February he made started only three matches.

Arsenal are expected to spend big on extra firepower, with Gonzalo Higuain thought to be at the top of their wanted list with rumours that a £22 million fee has already been agreed with Real Madrid, meaning Gervinho is likely to be surplus to requirements.

"It is true that I had little time to play on my return from the African Nations Cup," Gervinho told abidjan.net. "But it is the choice of the coach [Arsene Wenger].

"Now, it's the holidays. I'll relax for a while and then after I will look to the future, to see what I should do. There are still three weeks before pre-season. I really have time to think about it later. If I want a new start, I will have offers.

"Marseille is one of the leading French clubs, and I have a good relationship with some people there. I cannot say yes or no, but it is always flattering for a player to know that there are a lot of clubs who are interested in him."

Meanwhile, the Sun is reporting that Arsenal's interest in Swansea City defender Ashley Williams could hit the skids over his £10 million price tag.
