Gerrard hoping for United 'wobble'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hopes the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson from Manchester United will result in a 'wobble' for the Old Trafford club.

For the first time in 26 years, United will be under the guidance of a new manager as David Moyes has taken over following the retirement of Ferguson.

Gerrard is an admirer of Moyes and praised the Scot for his achievements at Everton, but he hopes the transition is far from smooth for the Premier League champions.

"They have replaced a world-class manager with another who has done a fantastic job at Everton, so I think David will continue to do a good job there," Gerrard told Sky Sports News.

"It is new for Manchester United; from a biased point of view, let's hope they have a wobble."

Gerrard does, though, feel the Red Devils have too much quality to slip off the pace. He said: "But I think they have too many good players to fall out of the title race. They have world-class players and I expect them to fight for the league again."

Liverpool are a side looking to press on in the season ahead and Gerrard feels it will be a thrilling season in the Premier League.

He said: "There's no getting away from it, the competition in the Premier League is going to get stronger and stronger.

"Manchester City are going to add to their squad, Jose Mourinho is back at Chelsea and we are going to make numerous signings. Tottenham and Arsenal are going to come back again so I think we are in for a very interesting Premier League campaign."
