Andre Schurrle has spoken of his joy at making the step up to the Premier League, after leaving Bayer Leverkusen to join Chelsea.

In an interview with Sportbild, Schurrle, who started all of Leverkusen's Bundesliga games last season, has claimed that the Premier League is a better standard than the German domestic league because of the more even spread of power throughout the division.

"I rate the Premier League a bit higher than the Bundesliga," Schurrle said. "In Germany there are only two dominating teams, Bayern and Dortmund. In England the top group is broader."

Schurrle also prefers the style of play in England because he admires "the fastest football in the world."

The Germany international believes he is capable of fulfilling his ambition of winning trophies at Chelsea.

"I am really looking forward to the club, the new colleagues and the city of London. I want to win many big titles with the club. I know my strengths and start very confident at Chelsea."

Schurrle has talked to international colleagues Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira about his new coach. The pair played under Mourinho at Real Madrid and spoke in glowing terms about what Schurrle can expect.

He said: "They both said he is the best coach they ever had. I'm really looking forward to working under Mourinho."

Schurrle has "only talked briefly to [Mourinho] once at the Michael Ballack's farewell game in Leipzig," although he took the opportunity to ask Ballack's opinion on his former manager at Chelsea.

"I talked a lot to Michael about Chelsea and Mourinho" Schurrle said. "He advised me to make that move, because Chelsea is a very familiar club with great team spirit."
