Wayne Rooney aggravated a groin injury in Manchester United's 4-0 win over Stoke but is still expected to be fit for the World Cup.

Rooney looked to be in discomfort during the match and limped off 13 minutes from the end, and there are concerns that he has suffered a recurrence of the groin injury that has kept him out in recent weeks.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson believes he will make a swift recovery and has calmed fears it could jeopardise his England hopes this summer.

"He has aggravated his groin again," Sir Alex Ferguson said. "I don't think it is serious. I think he will be okay for England."

Fabio Capello names his preliminary 30-man squad for South Africa on Tuesday.
