Besiktas director Ahmet Kavalci has claimed that the club have made an offer for Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Adebayor, 29, is believed to be surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane following an indifferent season which saw him score just five goals in 25 appearances following a £5 million move from Manchester City.

Kavalci is quoted as telling Turkish website Fanatik that Besiktas would be keen on signing the Togo international, although he believes a deal may still be some way off completion.

"It is certainly true that we are looking at the idea of a transfer," he said. "We have made a serious bid for Adebayor.

"That, in turn, has given us a figure for the player, which is slightly above the amount that we imagined.

"However, making a signing as big as this immediately is nothing but a dream. Negotiations always take a long time. I hope that we will get a chance to have a meeting soon."
