Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino has outlined his ambitious summer transfer plans which are headlined by highly rated Brazilian forward Leandro Damiao.

Damiao was the subject of a hefty bid from Tottenham in the final days of the January transfer window, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy failed to strike a deal with Internacional to bring the 23-year-old to the Premier League.

Now Southampton have joined the race to sign the marksman, even as they continue with their protracted bid to sign Celtic's Victor Wanyama.

Pochettino's agenda also contains a move for Valencia midfielder Ever Banega, with the Saints boss intent on signing more quality players after he sealed an £8.5m deal for Lyon's Dejan Lovren last month.

"We manage a lot of information about very good players," stated Pochettino. "One of them is Damiao, also Banega and also Wanyama.

"We are not interested in 15 or 20 players. We are interested in maybe two or three key players. At the same time, I also want to say our squad at the moment is really good and it is not like we are trapped in the sense that we need these players to be a better squad.

"We are managing when these players are going to be signed and how we sign them. Our squad as it is really good already, but we just want to bring in two or three players that reinforce key areas in the squad to become an even better team."
