PSG warned of Real interest in Verratti

Marco Verratti's agent has admitted the Italy international could become a target for former boss Carlo Ancelotti, who is now at Real Madrid, but insisted the player would remain at Paris Saint-Germain if he is given a pay rise.

Eyebrows were raised when Verratti, 20, then a relative unknown, arrived for an estimated €12 million and signed a five-year contract at the Parc des Princes last summer having caught the eye for Pescara in Serie B.

However, his impressive displays for the Ligue 1 champions, particularly in the early months of last season, saw him gain senior international recognition as he was dubbed 'the new Andrea Pirlo'.

The promising midfielder has been linked with both Juventus and Manchester United, among others, in the last year, and his representative, Donato Di Campli, told 10Sport that Ancelotti, who left PSG to join Madrid last month, could well enquire about the possibility of bringing his young compatriot to the Spanish capital.

"That certainly could be the case," Di Campli said, adding PSG merely need to up his client's annual salary from the €850,000 net he earns now, as recently reported in L'Equipe, to keep Verratti happy.

"Carlo hasn't contacted Marco to tell him to join him, and Marco has repeated several times he wants to stay in Paris. That's his priority. It's just that his salary needs to be aligned with that of others, but we respect Paris and we won't go to war."
