Celtic manager Neil Lennon has said Victor Wanyama is "a wee bit confused" after Southampton lodged a new bid for the player.

Wanyama, 22, was reportedly close to joining the Saints earlier in the summer after the two clubs agreed a fee, but the transfer broke down over personal terms as the player's agent, Ivan Modia, indicated the move was "not right for him".

However, Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino recently hinted that his club would rekindle their interest in the midfielder, and Lennon has confirmed the Saints have lodged another bid.

"I had a chat with Victor and he's a wee bit confused but what we gather is that Southampton have reignited their interest," Lennon was quoted as saying by the Sunday Mail after Saturday's friendly defeat to Cluj. "They've shown an interest again and the bid is there.

"It's all about the negotiations between Saints and the agent now. I'd imagine that might get the ball rolling again. I've only seen Victor for a couple of days but he trained with the rest of the squad who didn't play against Cluj. If nothing materialises, he'll play some of the game on Tuesday against Greuther Furth."

Cardiff are also reported to be interested in Wanyama.
