Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants striker Gonzalo Higuain to stay at the club after claiming there have been "no offers" from Arsenal or any other club for the Argentine international.

The 25-year-old Higuain has been linked with a move to Arsenal throughout the summer, after the player admitted he wanted to leave the Spanish capital.

But Perez poured cold water on the speculation, hoping to keep Higuain for the use of new Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

"We don't want Higuain to leave," Perez told Univision.

"What's more no-one from Arsenal has come to us and made us any offers at all for him. There are no offers on the table."

Meanwhile, Perez confirmed the club are looking to sign cover for Xabi Alonso with rumours suggesting Madrid will sign Under-21 Spanish midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

"We are concerned about the state of Xabi Alonso," Perez said. "Defensive midfield is a very important position and we should be looking to strengthen there."
