Beckham tipped for Paris Saint-Germain role

David Beckham could be the man to help fill the void left by Leonardo's impending departure from Paris Saint-Germain as the French champions' president vowed "nothing will slow us down".

Beckham, 38, ended his playing career by winning Ligue 1 with PSG in May, and both parties have talked about extending their relationship beyond the five-month cameo the global superstar played at the Parc des Princes.

Though the former England captain would unlikely replace 43-year-old Leonardo post-for-post as PSG's sporting director, Le Parisien claims he could be installed as special advisor to the club's president Nasser Al Khelaifi.

"We're talking to him about his future career choice," Al Khelaifi, 39, told the paper. "He could be an ambassador or an advisor."

Such a move would most likely see Beckham collaborate with coach Laurent Blanc with regard to potential purchases in the January transfer window, and would also afford Al Khelaifi room to manoeuvre should he succeed in fulfilling his reported long-standing ambition of convincing Arsene Wenger to take a role at PSG after his Arsenal contract expires next summer.

The Qatari told L'Equipe on Friday, however, he was "going to take [his] time regarding the question of replacing Leo." He added that though he regretted the fact the Brazilian will step down come the close of the current transfer period on 2 September, the work towards achieving the lofty goals of Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) - put in place when they took charge of the club in summer 2011 - would continue apace.

"The project stops for no-one. PSG today has more than 200 employees, including the players. The club is growing very quickly, and nothing and no-one will stop that growth from continuing," he stated. "Nothing can slow us down. We're continuing to build our team and our club to become a major European challenger in the years to come."
