Manchester City vice-captain Pablo Zabaleta said he hopes to play in Italy later in his career.

The Argentina international, 28, has been interested in Fiorentina since his compatriot Gabriel Batistuta's prolific spell there and also named Juventus, AC Milan and Inter as possible destinations.

Zabaleta, who has already played in La Liga with Espanyol, joined City in 2008 and was named their Player of the Year for the 2012-13 season.

Despite his ambition of playing in Italy, the right-back is expected to sign an extended contract with the 2012 Premier League champions.

"Serie A is a major championship in which I'd like to play one day," he told Sportitalia.

"Which team do I like? Juventus, Inter and AC Milan are important clubs but I think Fiorentina are a very interesting team.

"I don't know why but I have always liked Fiorentina since [Gabriel] Batistuta played there."
