Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that Edin Dzeko will stay at Manchester City and is happy to remain at the club despite reported interest from Napoli.

New City manager Pellegrini is keen to keep the Bosnia striker, who was unsettled at the end of last season and had refused to commit his future to the club.

Dzeko, a £27 million signing from Wolfsburg in January 2011, has been unhappy at his regular use as a substitute, having only started 16 league games in each of the past two league seasons - though he scored 14 goals in each campaign.

But after Carlos Tevez was sold to Juventus, Pellegrini is adamant City will keep Dzeko, even though he still wants to buy another attacker.

"I spoke two weeks ago with Dzeko when he was on holiday and he does not have any problems," Pellegrini told British Sunday newspapers.

"He will stay here. For me, he's a very important player. I'm sure that he will give this year the performances to show what he can do."

Dzeko, 27, has scored 40 goals in only 62 starts for City but had been linked with Borussia Dortmund as they looked for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
