New Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has said Maicon is not in his plans ahead of the 2013-14 season.

Maicon, 31, signed for City from Inter Milan last summer under former boss Roberto Mancini but struggled to make an impact in England.

The Brazilian made just four Premier League starts for the club and now appears likely to be sold this summer.

Speaking after City's 2-0 loss to SuperSport United, Pellegrini said on the club's official website: "Maicon didn't come here to the pre-season and he will not be in the squad at Manchester City this year."

Pellegrini also outlined his plans to bolster the squad, as he seeks "two or three" additions to aid his pursuit of silverware in the new campaign.

He said: "We are not in a hurry to bring new players in but we are clear that we need two or three more before the season begins.

"It's difficult to say a date for any new arrivals, but before July finishes I think we will have more players."
