Ramires has predicted Chelsea's upcoming season can be "better than the 2011-12 one, when we won the Champions League" after a positive opening week under the guidance of new boss Jose Mourinho.

Ramires has spoken of the buoyant mood in the Chelsea camp in the first week of training under the Mourinho regime, with the squad currently in the midst of a pre-season trip to the Far East as they get acclimatised to the new coaching set-up at the club.

"The environment during the first training sessions has been very good," Ramires told Globo Esporte. "Everyone is very excited and willing. We can feel positive changes happening. Mourinho and the new signings have contributed a lot to that.

"I might be wrong because we know how things are in football, but I think this season can be better than the 2011-12 one, when we won the Champions League.

"I see our team is ready, more interested and with the possibility of fighting for the Premier League title as well, which is something we haven't done in the last few years."

Meanwhile, reports in several newspapers on Monday suggested Chelsea are "increasingly confident" of signing Manchester United's Wayne Rooney this summer, as speculation continues to circle around the England striker who flew back from United's pre-season tour with a hamstring injury on Friday.
