Manchester City appear to be closing in on the signing of Stevan Jovetic after Fiorentina's unveiling of Mario Gomez as their new striker.

Over 20,000 fans packed into Florence's Stadio Artemio Franchi on Monday to hear the Viola's new signing say he was "very, very, very happy" to be part of their family, but it seems Jovetic is edging towards an exit.

City are believed to be ready to meet Fiorentina's €30 million asking price with a move reportedly imminent, so much so that the 23-year-old has not been summoned along with the rest of the squad to a pre-season training camp in Moena, Trentino.

Instead, his visit to the same clinic where Gomez underwent his medical on Monday was to gauge the recovery progress of an injury he picked up while on international duty with Montenegro.

Jovetic has scored 35 goals in 116 league appearances for Fiorentina, including 13 last season. He shot to fame in 2009-10 when the Viola beat Liverpool home and away in the group stage of the Champions League before bowing out on away goals to Bayern Munich, in spite of Jovetic's five goals in six appearances.

With Sevilla warning City they will have to pay the full asking price if they are to sign striker Alvaro Negredo, it is reported that Jovetic is now their top attacking target.
