Wantaway striker Christian Benteke will be fined by Aston Villa if he fails to report back to the club's training ground on Thursday, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Benteke, 22, has agreed to return to Bodymoor Heath this week, having been given 12 days extra time off after handing in a transfer request earlier this month.

With the Belgium international keen to leave Villa Park this summer, and Tottenham believed to be lining up a bid, there have been suggestions that he will not show up to training in order to force an exit, like he did at Genk last year.

However, if that is the case and Benteke fails to provide a valid excuse, then he will be hit with a fine for breaching the club's disciplinary code.

The financial penalty is believed to be one week's wages which, in the striker's case, would amount to around £20,000

Benteke was originally due to report back for training along with the rest of the club's internationals on July 6. However, that date was pushed back after he and his agent informed Villa of his desire to leave.

The Midlands side remain convinced that they hold a strong bargaining position as Benteke still has three years left to run on his contract.
