Olivier Giroud has backed Luis Suarez to join Arsenal this summer, insisting he would be able to "form a good understanding" with the Liverpool striker.

Suarez, 26, was named in the squad for Liverpool's pre-season tour as speculation over his future remains, with Arsenal reported to be considering an improved bid for the Uruguay international.

The striker's agent, Pere Guardiola, claims an offer of £40 million would trigger Suarez's release clause, although the Reds are believed to have a different interpretation of his contract.

Giroud, who scored a hat-trick in his side's 7-1 win over Vietnam on Wednesday, has urged Arsenal to persist with their pursuit of Suarez.

"Luis Suarez is someone with whom I could form a good understanding on the pitch," he said, according to the Sun. "So I am in favour of him coming to Arsenal and I am not afraid of the competition for places his arrival would bring about.

"Arsenal's aim for the new season will be to qualify for the Champions League. And, given the fact that our rivals have changed their coaching staff, I don't see why we can't challenge for the title."

Giroud has also set himself a personal target for next season as he looks to maintain his place in Arsene Wenger's starting line-up.

"From a personal viewpoint I aim to do better than last season, by scoring more than 17 goals and providing more than 10 assists," he added.
