Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris feels the summer signing of Paulinho can inspire the club to Champions League qualification.

Paulinho celebrates after scoring the winner against Uruguay.

Spurs signalled a statement of intent earlier this month by luring the midfielder from Corinthians for £17 million.

And Lloris, who signed for the club last summer, believes the 24-year-old's arrival at White Hart Lane proves Spurs are ready to make the step up to the next level.

"It's a big thing for us to have a Brazil international in the team," Lloris told The Sun.

"It shows that the club is still developing and improving. We have some great players in our team now."

Paulinho spent three years at Corinthians, scoring 34 goals in 167 games for the Brazilian side.

He also played a part in the Selecao's triumphant Confederations Cup campaign, where he was named the third best player in the tournament behind Neymar and Andres Iniesta, while he has won 17 caps in total for his country.
