John Terry is confident he will be fit to play in Saturday's FA Cup final against Portsmouth after suffering a foot injury in training.

The Chelsea skipper was taken to hospital after suffering the injury to his right foot, and it was initially feared that he had broken a metatarsal which would have ended his hopes of going to the World Cup in South Africa.

However, after the club confirmed that Terry had gone to hospital for a "precautionary scan", Terry released a statement confirming that he had not suffered a break.

"I took a slight knock in training but with such an important match on Saturday the right course of action was to put a protective boot on my right foot and have a CT scan," he said.

"The scan has shown there is no break and I am hoping to train tomorrow (Thursday) if not Friday and of course play in the FA Cup final on Saturday."

England manager Fabio Capello has a number of injury worries ahead of the trip to South Africa next month, with neither Rio Ferdinand nor Ledley King at full fitness.
