Chelsea ease past Malaysia XI

Belgium forward Kevin de Bruyne made a goal and scored another before departing on a stretcher as Chelsea claimed a comprehensive 4-1 victory against a Malaysia XI at Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

Bertrand Traore, a 17-year-old Burkina Faso international and trialist, scored after six minutes and De Bruyne doubled the advantage after 29 minutes before going off with a knee injury which did not prevent him from joining his team-mates on the bench for the final quarter of the match.

Romelu Lukaku added a third in first-half stoppage time and Victor Moses scored an 89th-minute fourth.

The biggest roar of the night came when Nizad Ayub headed a stoppage-time consolation as Jose Mourinho recorded a second win of his second spell as boss at Stamford Bridge.

Mark Schwarzer made his first Chelsea appearance in goal and Traore also started in a team which mixed experience and youth.

Lukaku, who scored the decisive penalty in Mourinho's return match against Singha All-Stars in Bangkok last Wednesday, had an effort saved by Farizal Marlias before Traore struck. De Bruyne cut a ball back from the byline and Traore, who had made a diagonal run from his position on the right into the left side of the area, coolly slotted in.

Chelsea showed glimpses of incisive play despite a poor pitch, with De Bruyne again impressive and Eden Hazard eager to please with some inventive play.

Traore, having earlier demonstrated his athleticism in the tackle, had the confidence to shoot from 40 yards after spotting the Malaysia goalkeeper off his line, but his effort went over.

There was a brief moment of alarm for Chelsea after Amri Yahyah's run down the Blues' left, but Schwarzer repelled the danger.

Chelsea doubled the lead when a Lukaku flick-on found De Bruyne, who drilled a first-time shot into the net before immediately calling for assistance. He was taken down the tunnel on a stretcher.

Schwarzer was at full stretch to save from captain Aidil Zaufuan before Lukaku got behind the Malaysia defence and tucked in from a tight angle.

Hazard and Marco van Ginkel were the only Chelsea players who finished the first half retained for the second and Andre Schurrle tried his luck before a rare demonstration of Hazard's heading ability saw the ball drift wide.

De Bruyne walked out gingerly to the Chelsea bench midway through the second half before Josh McEachran and Lucas Piazon replaced Van Ginkel and Hazard.

The uneven surface troubled Petr Cech when the ball was passed back to him in the second half, but still the hosts could not fully test the goalkeeper.

Chelsea's second-half team also lacked precision in the final third as the hosts kept their opponents at bay until Moses' effort squirmed into the net late on.

There was still time for the hosts to net a consolation when Ayub headed in.

Elsewhere, Norwich City gave debuts to new signings Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Leroy Fer but still went down 1-0 to MLS side San Jose Earthquakes thanks to a seventh-minute goal from Cordell Cato, who pounced on an error from Russell Martin to calmly slot past Mark Bunn.

Swansea City, meanwhile, continued their fine pre-season form with a 2-0 victory at League 2 Exeter. The Swans, who have now scored 25 goals and conceded just one in six friendlies, edged past the Devon side thanks to goals from Nathan Dyer and Rory Donnelly.

And Bournemouth put up a good fight in their blockbuster friendly with Spanish giants Real Madrid, who ran out 6-0 winners at Dean Court.

Madrid put out a near full-strength side and were three up at the break thanks to two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Sami Khedira. Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria and Casemiro completed the rout after half time.
