Former Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic has asked fans of his old club not to turn against him after his move to Manchester City as he keeps the door open on an eventual return to Florence.

Jovetic, 23, completed his move to City last week after spending five seasons with the Viola and becoming a fans' favourite.

His decision to leave in search of a fresh challenge would not have upset supporters unduly - but many were angered when he was linked with a move to bitter rivals Juventus.

"Juventus did ask about me, but was that my fault?" the Montenegrin told Gazzetta dello Sport. "They came looking for me, but I chose City. That is that. I never, and I repeat never, spoke badly about Fiorentina.

"I still think about them now. Whenever I get the chance, I'll hop on a plane to Florence. Who knows - maybe, in the future, I could return."

Fiorentina narrowly missed out on a place in the Champions League, and Jovetic said that was one of the main reasons he had chosen to leave.

"[City] are a top club with huge ambitions," he said. "We're going to be fighting to win the Premier League and of course also the Champions League, which is a huge ambition and, more than anything, convinced me to come here. I want to win things."
