Podolski 'not scared' of new arrivals

Lukas Podolski does not feel threatened by Arsenal's hunt for a new striker - claiming the club will benefit from new additions to the squad.

The Gunners have had a second bid of £40 million + £1 for Luis Suarez rejected by Liverpool, while they have also been linked with the likes of Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain and unsettled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

The arrival of one of those players could see Podolski miss out on first-team action at The Emirates, but he insists if a signing was to be made his position would not be under any threat.

"I'm not scared about big names because it helps the team and will help me when we play together," Podolski is quoted as saying in the Sun.

"Every summer is the same. Players come in and others leave. I am always happy to play with the best in the world."

Podolski joined the Gunners in the summer of 2012, and scored 16 goals in his debut season. And the German international feels the fight for places is all part of playing for a major club.

"But it's not about what is good for me, it's about improving the whole team," he said. "You have competition at every big club, particularly one the size of Arsenal. When all the players are fit, there is big competition here."
