United's Fabregas chase continues

David Moyes insists Manchester United's bid for Cesc Fabregas is not dead in the water yet - despite Barcelona claiming the midfielder is going nowhere.

United have seen two bids knocked back already but Moyes is still confident the club can pull off what would be a significant transfer coup.

However if Moyes is to prise Fabregas away from Catalunya then he may have to eclipse United's transfer record, the £30.75 million paid to Tottenham for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.

Quizzed on the status of the deal at United's press conference on Thursday in Japan, Moyes said: "It is ongoing."

Fabregas' Barcelona team-mate Alex Song, meanwhile, insists the former Arsenal midfielder will not be joining Mantchester United.

He told Sky Sports News: "I did not speak with him but I know Cesc is 100 per cent here.

"He loves Barcelona, he loves the club. He will stay here next season and give 100 per cent because I know him very well and he'll want to fight. He's focused on the club.

"He wants just to give his best for Barcelona. He's from Barcelona, he loves Barcelona and he'll want to start the season to show what he can do.

"People are talking and talking, but we know he is focused here and ready to start the season. He's enjoying a holiday with his family and I'm sure he wants just to come back here.

"It's my own opinion but I know he will stay here, 100 per cent."

Elsewhere at United, Robin van Persie was substituted during United's 3-2 defeat to Yokohama F Marinos on Tuesday through injury but Moyes believes he will be ready to feature in the club's next game of their pre-season tour of the Far East against Cerezo Osaka.

Moyes also revealed that Wayne Rooney is right on schedule to link up with United for their friendly clash with AIK in Stockholm on August 6, despite speculation linking the striker with a move to Arsenal or Chelsea.

"Wayne is running and at the level we thought he'd be at. He'll step that up this week," Moyes added.

"Robin was a precaution the other night. I expect he and [Danny] Welbeck to both play [on Friday].

"Carrick had a tight groin and is doing better but probably won't feature. He should resume training over the weekend."
