Radamel Falcao is hopeful the controversy over his age will go away after a scan of his birth certificate was published in a Colombian newspaper.

Falcao, Monaco's recent £53 million signing, was accused by a Colombian television channel of being two years older than his listed age of 27, after his primary school dug up documents that seemed to reveal his birth date as 1984, not 1986 as he is registered with FIFA.

The striker and his family immediately denied the claims, with newspaper El Tiempo now publishing a scan of what is believed to be Falcao's birth certificate - showing his birthday as February 10, 1986.

Falcao had previously taken to Twitter to express his surprise and displeasure at the rumours surrounding him.

"I have been surprised with stories in the media about my age," Falcao said on Twitter. "They are totally ridiculous.

"I want to deny these claims and end this issue once and for all."
