Moyes: No Rooney developments

David Moyes has revealed that Chelsea have made no fresh contact with Manchester United over their bid to sign Wayne Rooney after having a £20 million offer for the striker rejected.

Rooney is still on track to return from injury in time for United's next pre-season friendly, against AIK in Stockholm on August 6.

But Moyes remained tight-lipped on any advancement in the transfer saga. When quizzed on Rooney's situation he said: "I couldn't give you any more update than I've said before."

United ran out 5-2 winners over Kitchee in Hong Kong in what was their final game of their tour of Australia and the Far East, giving Moyes his second win in charge of the club.

After torrential downpour had left the pitch badly damaged during the recent Barclays Asia Trophy, United had been concerned about picking up injuries and Moyes duly left out senior players Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand, with Robin van Persie only coming off the bench late on.

Moyes added: "I thought our players played very well on a difficult pitch. We made it look like a good pitch.

"I thought the pitch quality didn't matter because we played very well, especially in the first half when we were very good.

"I didn't worry about pitch too much at all. We played well and we move on.

"You talk about getting players fit for the new season. It was a hard workout in warm conditions. We head back to the UK and get ready to go to Sweden in a few days' time."

Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling, Fabio Da Silva, Adnan Januzaj and Jesse Lingard all got on the scoresheet for United. Moyes singled out the contributions of the latter two - as well as new boy Wilfried Zaha - as one of the highlights of his experience on the tour.

Moyes said: "I'm taking away a great experience of my first tour with Manchester United in general and what the club means around the world.

"I've got to know the players and settle into my new environment. The players have got to know me as well - they've been working with a great manager for a long time.

"They're incredibly professional and you can see why they're champions. I've been very impressed by them.

"I've watched them play over the last few years but seeing a couple of young boys like Adnan (Januzaj), Jesse Lingard and (Wilfried) Zaha, I feel they have contributed to the trip."
