Joey Barton is willing to take a pay-cut in order to join his boyhood club Everton after his agent held talks with manager Roberto Martinez.

Barton was loaned out to Marseille last season from Queens Park Rangers, but is looking to depart the club who were relegated from the Premier League.

Now, a move to Everton could be on the cards after Barton failed to secure a permanent deal to Marseille, and his agent Willie McKay has revealed a conversation with Martinez at Everton has taken place.

"I spoke to Roberto to see if he would be interested in taking Joey. I told him that Joey would love to join Everton and that they are the only club he willing to lose money to play for," McKay said of Barton, who reportedly earns £70,000-a-week.
