Wayne Rooney will reportedly decide his future at Manchester United based on what kind of reception he receives in the next two matches he features in.

Rooney continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford, and Chelsea have already had a bid of £27 million turned down by the Premier League champions.

Some reports suggest Chelsea are readying to launch a £40m offer to bring the England international to Stamford Bridge, but the future of Rooney could be decided in United's friendly against AIK Stockholm in Sweden next week, or in Rio Ferdinand's testimonial match at Old Trafford against Sevilla.

If Rooney receives a warm welcome he will reportedly tell manager David Moyes that he wants to stay at the club. However, if he gets a backlash from the fans, then he will seek a transfer and attempt to push through a move to Chelsea, his preferred choice of destination.

Rooney was left out of the United team at the backend of the previous campaign, with retiring manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealing on the final day of the season that the striker had submitted a transfer request.

However, a formal request has yet to be handed in by Rooney, and United are determined not to let him leave.
