Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Lyon for the services of Bafetimbi Gomis, the French club have confirmed.

The Magpies have been looking to add a new striker to their squad this summer, and have long been linked with a move for both Gomis and Loic Remy.

The Premier League side appeared to have cooled their interest in Gomis earlier this week, though, after seeing a £6.9 million bid rejected for the player.

However, Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas has since revealed that the club have accepted a new offer of €8m, plus €2m worth of add-ons, from Newcastle.

Aulas said in quotes on French website Journal du Dimanche: "We have accepted the proposal of Newcastle, which is €8m, plus €2m. The agreement is now linked to the acceptance of agents' fees.

"I understand that the problem is in the amount and manner of payment of commissions. There are several people involved in the operation, which complicates the negotiations. But I am hopeful that things will be resolved within 24 or 48 hours.''
