Vincent Kompany has been targeted by Barcelona if the Spanish champions fail in their bid to sign Chelsea's David Luiz or Daniel Agger from Liverpool.

Luiz and Agger have both been linked with a move to the Nou Camp this summer, with the Brazilian in particular keen to push the transfer through after it became clear he is not fancied by new Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho.

But Mundo Deportivo claimed on Sunday that Barcelona will go after Manchester City captain Kompany should Plan A fail to materialise.

Kompany has been one of City's stand-out performers in recent years - particularly the title winning season of 2011-12 - and will not come cheap for the Catalan giants, who have already missed out on their first summer target - Paris Saint-Germain's Thiago Silva.

The Barcelona-based newspaper also claims Luiz is prepared to significantly cut his current salary in order to get his dream move.
