David Moyes's first signing Guillermo Varela has admitted he could be loaned out to Boca Juniors for the season.

The 20-year-old Uruguayan, the only player brought to Manchester United during Moyes' reign, said he felt a return to his native South America might be in his best interests.

The defender joined United from Penarol in June for £2.8 million but Moyes' squad contains plenty of other options in the right-back position, where Rafael and Fabio da Silva, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling can all play.

Boca were reportedly interested in signing Varela before he went to United and told TuttoMercatoWeb that going there: "Could be a good solution. I would play with continuity for one year, always thinking of returning to United, who is the team which most believed in me."

Varela impressed United during a trial at Carrington, signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford and was a member of the Uruguay squad for this summer's World Under-20 championship.
