Rooney set to miss Community Shield

England striker Wayne Rooney is included in Roy Hodgson's squad to face Scotland next week despite looking likely to miss the Community Shield for Manchester United because of his shoulder injury.

David Moyes believes the unsettled striker will not recover in time to face Wigan at Wembley on Sunday.

Rooney is also set to sit out Rio Ferdinand's testimonial against Sevilla at Old Trafford on Friday, which was billed as the game that would help him determine his future, depending upon how the United crowd reacted to him.

Rooney has only appeared once for United since May 5, playing in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Real Betis on Saturday.

He was omitted from the squad for the final two games of last season by Sir Alex Ferguson, who said the former Everton player had asked to leave the club, flew home from the pre-season tour of Asia and Australia with a hamstring injury and then missed Tuesday's draw with AIK Stockholm because of his shoulder problem.

"I don't think he is going to be fit and available. Of course we are still hoping he will, but I have a feeling he won't make it," Moyes said.

There was better news on goalkeeper David De Gea and striker Javier Hernandez, neither of whom travelled to Sweden for the midweek friendly.

Moyes added: "David has staved his finger - but he's okay. He could have played in Sweden and we hope he will be fit for Friday night and Sunday's Community Shield against Wigan at Wembley.

"Javier has a bit of a hamstring problem that he picked up in training but we didn't want to risk him."

Jonny Evans and Nani are both doubts for United.
