Rooney remains in limbo

Wayne Rooney has been told by his captain Nemanja Vidic "there's no point" in leaving Manchester United.

Rooney, 27, has been the central figure in one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer, with Chelsea promising to chase him until the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea have been encouraged in their pursuit with Rooney rumoured to be close to submitting a transfer request to force the move to London.

However United have stood firm in their stance in holding onto their player, with David Moyes again reiterating he is not for sale - and Vidic believes it would be a mistake for Rooney to leave "the best club in the world".

"I believe Man United is the biggest club in the world and I think there's no point to go anywhere," Vidic said.

"There's so much speculation, so much talk about whether he'll leave or stay. He's at the best club in the world.

"I have to say the last four years I was in that position as well. People were talking about me leaving the club.

"I'm still here and I'm enjoying playing for this club. Nothing has changed."
