Glazers won't sell Rooney
The Glazer family, United's American owners, have apparently insisted they will not countenance letting Rooney join Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho has had two offers for Rooney, 27, rejected, and has said he is his only target in the remainder of the transfer window.
David Moyes has admitted that Rooney wants to leave United, for whom he has scored 197 goals. But Moyes has been adamant that Rooney is not for sale and his stance has been backed up by the club's powerbrokers.
The Guardian reports any further Chelsea offers will be rejected "out of principle" and that it is not a matter of trying to increase Rooney's price. Gary Neville, the former United captain, said earlier in the week that United would be "mad" to sell Rooney.
Rooney is currently in the England squad, preparing for Wednesday's friendly against Scotland, and has confided in Steven Gerrard about his future - but his international captain refused to disclose what they had discussed.
