Danny Welbeck believes it will be a "bonus" to see Wayne Rooney playing for Manchester United again.

The club colleagues were reunited in England's 3-2 win over Scotland on Wednesday night and Welbeck enjoyed the experience.

He scored and won the man-of-the-match award while Rooney, who has been the subject of two bids from Chelsea this summer with his future at United still in doubt, played for 67 minutes as they were paired on the pitch for the first time since United's 2-0 win at Stoke on April 14.

Rooney has missed United's first-team pre-season friendlies with hamstring and shoulder injuries.

But Welbeck believes they have a fine understanding and savoured their time together on the international stage.

He said: "It's really good to link up with him. I've been playing with him for a very long time now.

"Once we're on the pitch we know each other's games. I'm just really happy for him to get out on the pitch and get his first game of the season.

"We all know the quality Wayne Rooney possesses. To have him on the pitch for Manchester United is a bonus."
