Yaya Toure believes Manchester City are determined to be successful this season and want to make life difficult for their rivals.

City began their campaign under new manager Manuel Pellegrini with a thumping 4-0 victory over Newcastle on Monday night, and Toure, who scored one of the goals from a free-kick, believes the start is a sign of things to come from the side.

"I hope I can continue to score important goals for the team and I think this year is going to be a good one for us," Toure told Manchester Evening News.

Pellegrini's men have been strongly tipped to win the Premier League this season, and after putting up a poor defence of their crown and seeing rivals Manchester United cruise to the title last season, which ultimately led to the sacking of Roberto Mancini, Toure insists City are aiming to become a tough team for their rivals.

"This year we want to do the job. We want to work hard, keep it going, make it as difficult as possible for our opponents and try to be better and stronger," Toure added.

"It's important for me and the club. I know how much everyone desires success and that our fans only want to see one Manchester club profit this season."
