Schalke left themselves in danger of missing out on qualifying for the Champions League group stages after slipping to a 1-1 draw at home to PAOK Salonika.

Jefferson Farfan struck first for Schalke just past the half-hour mark, but Miroslav Stoch, the former Chelsea winger, grabbed a vital away goal on 73 minutes.

Basel took advantage in their play-off tie with Ludogorets with a 4-2 first leg away win. Mohamed Salah gave Basel the lead after 12 minutes but Marcelinho equalised to ensure the teams headed into the break level. Ivan Stoyanov struck soon after the restart to put Ludogorets ahead, before Salah got his second just before the hour mark. Giovanni Sio made it 3-2 to Basel five minutes later before Junior Caicara saw red for Ludogorets late on, with Fabian Schar converting the resultant penalty.

Dinamo Zagreb suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Austria Wien, thanks to second-half goals from Marin Leovac and Marko Stankovic, either side of a red card for the hosts' Ante Rukavina.

Steaua Bucuresti and Legia Warsaw played out a 1-1 draw with Federico Piovaccari giving the home side a first-half lead, before Jakub Kosecki equalised eight minutes after the restart.

Arsenal took a huge step towards qualification with a comprehensive 3-0 win against Fenerbahce in Istanbul, with second-half goals from Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud.
