Manchester United will turn down Chelsea's third bid for Wayne Rooney, a source has told ESPN.

Chelsea have already seen two offers knocked back by United for Rooney, 27, with Jose Mourinho stating that he is the club's primary transfer target this summer.

Chelsea are believed to be preparing a final bid of £40 million for Rooney, and Mourinho has confirmed it will be made after the two sides meet at Old Trafford on Monday.

However, a source close to United says the club are far from impressed at what they believe to be underhand tactics from Chelsea to unsettle Rooney ahead of their Premier League clash.

The Manchester Evening News also quotes a United source as saying: "Our position on Wayne has not changed in the last 12 months and Chelsea know that.

"There is lot of anger and a perception that the latest comments have been made purely to get into the player's head before the match."

The same source added that United's attempts to add to their squad are "ongoing".

Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines remain targets, while Real Madrid pair Luka Modric and Mesut Ozil have also been linked with moves to Old Trafford.
