Another twist to the Gareth Bale transfer saga: Real Madrid have competition in their pursuit of the Tottenham forward as reports emerge of a second offer from an unnamed club.

According to Sky Sports News, Spurs are considering offers for Bale from more than one club and are yet to agree a deal with the Spanish giants.

Reports in Spain over the weekend suggested that the summer's standout transfer story was nearing a conclusion, with Tottenham discussing the terms of payment for what is expected to be a world record fee of around £85m.

Spurs appear to be resigned to losing Bale before the transfer window closes, with Andre Villas-Boas calling for the saga to be resolved this week, but as yet there is no indication of the identity of the second club to have submitted a bid for the Welshman.

Bale missed Tottenham's opening Premier League wins over Crystal Palace and Swansea with a minor injury and has spent the weekend at his agent's apartment in Marbella. He is expected to return to training this week.
