City deny Australian club buy-out
Manchester City have denied stories they are about to buy Australian club Western Sydney Wanderers and have insisted they have not even thought about it.
City were reported to be willing to pay around £9 million for Wanderers.
However the club were bemused to hear it and are adamant that they have not even considered taking over the 2012-13 A-League Premiership champions.
A club spokesperson told ESPN: "Contrary to media reports in Australia, Manchester City Football Club has expressed no interest whatsoever in the purchase of any stake in the Western Sydney Wanderers.
"Also contrary to reports, the club has not requested, nor has it received, any 50-page information document about the sale. The matter is not under consideration."
Wanderers, who were only formed last year, are currently owned by the A-League and investment bank UBS are trying to find them a private buyer.
City and an unnamed other Premier League club were mooted as potential new owners.
But while City have agreed a partnership with the New York Yankees to form a club in New York, New York City FC, they have no such plans to have a partner or a subsidiary in Australia.
