Roma claim Lamela to Spurs deal done, Eriksen in talks

Roma have announced the sale of Erik Lamela for €30 million to Tottenham Hotspur, while Spurs have also began talks with Christian Eriksen according to Ajax director of football Marc Overmars.

Roma revealed Lamela's departure to Spurs on their official website, stating the €30 million deal could rise by another €5 million, subject to bonuses based on both the player and the club's future achievements.

Tottenham have yet to confirm the deal for Lamela, who has been strongly linked with the club as speculation over Gareth Bale's future has intensified.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas said on Wednesday that he expected Bale's mooted €100 million switch to Real Madrid to be completed "very, very soon".

Villas-Boas also said he expects further summer arrivals in light of the cash injection received by the potential sale of Bale, targeting Eriksen as well as Vlad Chiriches for a reported €8 million from Steaua Bucharest.

Eriksen could well be next to follow Lamela, as Ajax director of football Overmars has confirmed he had met with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy on Wednesday, with reports suggesting the Premier League side have increased their offer to over €10 million.

Ajax were reported be seeking €15 million for Eriksen, 21, who has one year remaining on his contract.

Overmars told De Telegraaf that Eriksen was now set to hold talks with Spurs, with the clubs apparently having come to an agreement over the fee.

"Yes, Levy was here and Eriksen has been given permission to speak to Tottenham," Overmars said.

However, Overmars is still hopeful the player will stay.

"It's only when the signatures are placed on the bottom of the agreement that a deal is done and that is not so," Overmars said. "Should it come to that, we would not be happy - especially since we believe that this year Christian is getting better and more decisive in matches.

"In that respect we'd prefer him to stay, but the length of his contract is obviously very important and there are also agreements made in the past. You cannot get away from that."

Meanwhile, Villas-Boas thinks it highly unlikely that a deal for Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata is possible.

"First, Chelsea wouldn't sell to Tottenham in any way or form, as they think that we are title contenders," Villas-Boas said. "Mata is a great, great player - player of the season last season - very, very important player for Chelsea.

"They're just not going to strengthen another team that, in their opinion, are rivals for the title."
