Wayne Rooney has thanked Manchester United fans for their support during Monday's 0-0 Premier League draw with Chelsea.

Rooney has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford ever since former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that he had asked to leave the club for a second time.

Chelsea have since stated that the England international is their primary summer transfer target and have seen two bids knocked back for the player by the Red Devils.

Following a number of injury problems, Rooney made his first start for United since April against the Blues on Monday, putting in an impressive display, and was backed from start to finish by the club's supporters.

And the 27-year-old has taken to his official Facebook account to thank the fans, with many having been expected to give Rooney a hostile reception.

He wrote: "Here's some pictures from Monday night's game. It was an unbelievable reaction from the fans, so thank you. I really appreciate your support. It means a lot."

It is believed Rooney will now remain at United after appearing to opt against submitting a transfer request.
